"PIKE - With a nearly unprecedented amount of private land being actively considered for future development, the County Commissioners agreed to ask the voters if they support a tax increase to create the weaponry needed to preserve open space.
Tuesday the commissioners voted to go forward with a referendum on the November Election ballot and Wednesday morning, Peter Pinchot and other representatives of the Alliance to Keep Pike Green hailed the move as well timed.

"PIKE and WAYNE - Pennsylvania voters agreed with a state proposal to borrow $625 million to deal with environmental issues ranging from mine reclamation to watershed protection when voters went to the polls in the 2005 Primary Election, Tuesday.
"On a statewide level, 693,941 voters said "yes" to the referendum question while 452,468 said "no," according to the PA Department of State result from 99.2 percent of the districts..
In Pike County, however, the measure was approved by nearly a 2-1 margin. That was something that did not go unnoticed by the County Commissioners when they met Tuesday. When the board met Wednesday morning, Commissioner Richard Caridi said the members had been waiting for the results of the statewide referendum to make its decision about including a similar local question on the ballot this fall.
"Last year a coalition of organization determined to "Keep Pike Green" approached county officials about the possibility of floating a $10 million bond issue to fund planning initiatives aimed at protecting open space in the county. Since that time, the Keep Pike Green group and the county Planning and Conservation District Staffs have been helping gather information to support the idea."
